Announces new single ‘City Livers’

Having been ensconced in the studio working on new material, rising South London tropical pop singer/producer/DJ &around (Sam Simon) is pleased to announce details of a brand new track ‘City Livers’ due this August.

Sam details the track: “City Livers takes influence from living in a busy city (London). I was trying to find some peace when making this track, so it’s shaped by the pace of being in a place that moves relentlessly and where the need to stop and breathe sometimes is important.”

The project was influenced by a recent trip around the world. &around was conceived on a laptop, a vocoder toy and an iPhone across Bali, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Vietnam over the past 6 months.

Sketching song ideas in hostel rooms, on boat trips between islands, long bus journeys and airport waiting rooms, he developed his vocoder style vocals by singing into a toy he found on the street in Bangkok, and travelled with it singing into his iPhone. This developed into the sound that is &around and after studio sessions all over the world, Sam is ready to launch his 3rd single ‘City Livers’.

Oliver Tank – Up all night
There’s something in the vibe of this e.p which I took with me in music, and used to listen to this track at the end of a night.
tom zanetti – 2 Funky Madina
The boing bass in this tune stuck with me for sure – you can dance real stupid to this too
Jamie XX far nearer
the idea that you can still keep the listeners attention without obvious lyrics had me on this one. If it sounds great and connects with you, vocal sounds can ride a whole song. Like City Livers 🙂
Alt J – Something good
Lucky to tour with these guys a couple years back in a band I was in. There’s a simplicity to sections and their use of space that has definitely influenced me. They’re so good.
Toro y Moi – You and I
The cloudy synths and tropical wonky beats connect with me on this one, little vocal noises in the background I like the beat coming in it’s super subtle but so good
