Out now on Play It Again Sam via [PIAS]
FEWS are pleased to announce an impromptu return with details of a new track, a version of Gary Numan’s “Metal” that will be released through Play It Again Sam via [PIAS].
The band saw out the tail-end of 2016 playing as guests on the European leg of the Pixies tour and welcomed the start of this year with their own run of European club dates. This re-working, originally on Numan’s 1979 album The Pleasure Principle, was conceived on those Pixies dates whilst confined to the joys of touring on a budget – discussions broached resulted with the quartet rounding in on “Metal”.
As bassist Jay explains; “we were spending so much time travelling and listening to music on those dates and intermittently we’d all get excited about something we’d heard. ‘Metal’ was that track, Fred demo-ed a version and we began including in our live show, the reaction it got meant that we decided to record it properly.”
Renowned for their incendiary live performances, “Metal” adds an extra dimension, pulverising anything in its path mirroring the alienation and orchestrated chaos of the original providing the perfect stop-gap for the band who are currently working on their follow-up to last year’s debut Means.
Recorded in Malmo, almost home for half of the band, they enlisted friend and studio owner Jocke Lindberg to co-produce and help shape their vision into the finished track.
