DAISY CLARK

How did you start?

I grew up with a love for music… it’s always been my passion! I was involved in lots of theatre and performing arts as a child, but I loved singing and songwriting the most. I was greatly influenced by Taylor Swift in my teenage years. I loved how she wrote all of her own songs with just her and a guitar… this inspired me to learn to play an acoustic guitar, start songwriting and get myself out to gigs.

Where are you based?

I’m from Newquay in Cornwall, an amazing seaside town that I adore. The music scene here is small, but strong. Through the busy summer months there are incredible music festivals such as Boardmasters which I am playing at and many talented buskers!

Please give an example of your music writing process?

I never have a strategic plan when songwriting, it depends what has inspired me or how I am feeling. Sometimes I think of a lyric and base a song around that, or I’ll work out a guitar part and write lyrics around the chords!

What are you working on right now?

I have just released my single ‘Worlds Away’ (which is avaliable on iTunes, Spotify etc) which I’m very excited about. It’s the first original song I have properly released and I can’t wait to hear what my listeners think. Especially as it involves more production than my typical soft, acoustic music. Im currently still writing away and hoping to release more original material in the future.

What is your gear setup?

So for gigs i would take my PA setup along with my Martin 000X1AE acoustic guitar, and sometimes I’ll bring my Squier Mustang. In terms of home equipment (my YouTube video setup) I use a Samson C01U to record audio with a Nikon D3100 camera. I record on to Logic on my MacBook then edit the video & audio on Final Cut Pro. I also have a TC Helicon Live Acoustic pedal, which is great to use as a harmonising pedal or loop pedal!

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I love art and I’m constantly doodling in a sketchbook, which is very convenient for train journeys. I love creative writing which works well with songwriting! None of my other interests affect my music as a lot of them are creative so work well with my music career!

How would you describe your music genre?

I’d say it’s an acoustic/singer songwriter/pop folk kind of genre! Kind of a mix but mainly just acoustic.

Do you know any music theory?

I know a little from what I learnt at school but honestly not a lot! I know some basic terms and I can figure out some written notation but I’m not the best! Haha.

What are your plans for the future?

To release more original music! I love songwriting and I love being able to share my original stuff with my audience! Hopefully to make an album!

How did you get into music?

There was never a point in my life where I was suddenly very interested in music. I’ve just always been very passionate about it! I think that love of music from such a young age gave me a lot of ambition and drive to be successful with my music career.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I love Harry Styles new album! Especially ‘sweet creature’. I also really love Julia Michaels.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

  1. The 1975 = my FAVOURITE band. I absolutely love their music and have seen them live. I was absolutely blown away by their performance.
  2. Taylor Swift = She influenced me from a young age to pick up a guitar and write my own music!
  3. Gabrielle Aplin = her songwriting is so incredible and I’m in love with her voice.
  4. Dodie Clark = an incredible YouTube musician. Her original songs are breathtaking and she inspired me to upload my own YouTube videos.
  5. Kelly Clarkson = we used to listen to her songs in the car on the way to school and I wanted to be just like her!

When are you playing next?

I’m playing at The Watering Hole in Perranporth on the 9th of June. I’m playing at the North Circle Bar in the Royal Albert Hall on the 30th of June, and I have other gig dates in Cornwall up on my social media platforms!
