ANDRES CAMPO

How did you start?

I think I was too young, I started at 14 playing with decks, at 16 I was resident in one club in my hometown (huesca) the rest is history.

Where are you based?

I move to Barcelona 6 years ago, I love this place.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

I don’t follow any rules, I prefer to leave the creativity and let it flow, I think that’s the reason why my tracks don’t have the same sound as each other, maybe i’m wrong but i’m a designer by trade too, so i prefer that.

What are you working on right now?

I’m trying to finish my first EP for Edible (Eats Everything’s label).

What is your gear setup?

At the moment I have a Roland Tr-8 and TB-03, Maschine, One Arturia Minibrute (all my bass come from him), and I love and i use a lot the electron Analog Rytm and my new brand Analog Heat also from Elektron (love this brand). Most of the time I use hardware, then I sequence in Ableton and process with plugins from my UAD cards.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

Sports, and yes it affects a lot, always positively. Also I love design and all art related things, I think they have a lot of impact in my creative flow.

How would you describe your music genre?

I think is difficult, sometimes I do more mental stuff and sometimes I need to do more focused 4×4 tracks.. On the decks techno is my main style, but when the floor demands I can go from groovy tech to serious techno.

Do you know any music theory?

I study Harmony for some years, but if i’m being honest I forget most of it, I think I’ve kept the intuition and this is something important. I am researching techniques all the time.

What are your plans for the future?

Still enjoying the journey of doing what I love..  and working hard on creating new music.

How did you get into music?

Through some friends. I was the youngest in the group and we all loved electronic music. They where playing with some old turntables at the home, I tried it once and I fall in love. I love a lot of different styles and genres, but electronic music has always been my first love.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Right at this second? Andreya Triana.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Umm, Prodigy is always number 1, because they had a HUGE impact on me when I was young. Also, Dj Misjah, Vitalic, Carl Cox and i reserve the last spot because i’m sure the best is yet to come.

When are you playing next?

We have just enjoyed a super Sonar week here in Barcelona. Was soooo busy! Monday I played City Hall with the Odd Recordings crew, Thursday evening with Suara crew and Edible squad and Sunday I played b2b with Eats Everything at Elrow.. yeah! Monday I was dead! Last week I played Hideout Festival for the first time which was crazy. I can’t wait to go back next year.

This weekend we have Elrow’s biggest party of the year, the 7th Anniversary, which has a super crazy line up, including me. Then I play  the Tramunfest Festival in Girona and Tomorrowland in Belgium. Come along!
